As President of the Foundation, my role is to guide the Foundation in its mission to strengthen ministries across the Virginia Conference. Thus, I am frequently on the road consulting with local church and district leaders about how they may steward potential to build His kingdom. I oversee the day-to-day operations of the staff, interface with various conference leadership and work with the Foundation Board to achieve our mission through our development, educational, consulting and financial services ministry.
I joined The Virginia United Methodist Foundation in June 2013, as Gift Planning Officer, and was elected President in May 2014. I also serve as President/CEO of our wholly owned subsidiary, the Virginia United Methodist Development Company, LLC.
After graduating from Houghton College in upstate NY with a BS in Ministerial Studies in May 1973, I followed in my father's footsteps and was ordained to serve as a pastor in the Christian and Missionary Alliance. For the past 30 years, I have worked with several faith-based non-profit organizations in leadership roles, specializing in legacy planning. I have worked as a generosity coach with numerous private donors in crafting family legacy plans to fund charitable purposes. Prior to coming to The Foundation, I served as the Director of Gift Planning for Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Wycliffe Foundation in Orlando, FL. I have pursued graduate studies in planned giving with at the University of Richmond Institute on Philanthropy, the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary, the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA and various continuing education credits in planned giving with Crescendo Interactive.
My wife, Paula, and I live in Glen Allen, VA - and have been married over 40 years. We have two children and six grandchildren.
My life mission is to enable and equip Christian stewards to endow ministry through gift planning and donor development - and thereby, to bring back the King. My heart is passionate about planning well and managing well to endow lasting ministries into the future!

Ted joined the Virginia United Methodist Foundation in November, 2015 as Vice President/Investing and Stewardship Development. He is a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) where he earned a BA in Mathematics and Economics. He is also a graduate of General Electric's Financial Management Program and earned a Master's Degree in Multinational Management from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
Ted spent 15 years with General Electric in their aircraft engine, medical systems, large steam turbine generator and carboloy divisions in financial management assignments throughout the US and in Taiwan. He left GE to move into law firm management and served as Executive Director or COO of several law firms in Michigan, Minnesota and Virginia. In 2004, he moved to Richmond to become the Chief Administrative Officer of the Legal Division of Wachovia Securities. In his travels, he has chaired or served on numerous church Finance Committees. He also served for 8 years as Board Member and Treasurer of the Virginia Repertory Theatre.
Although none of his family ever lived in Wisconsin, Ted is a lifelong (diehard) Badger and Packer fan. As a child, if asked who he would marry, he would indicate that he didn't know, but that it would be a nurse from Wisconsin. He has been married for 32 years to Pam, a nurse from Milwaukee! Lydia, their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel runs their home.
Ted's passion in life is helping people and churches make better use of their financial gifts through strategic planning, improved investment performance and cost reductions. He looks forward to serving the conference and expanding our ministry.
